While being part of a campus group can be one of the most meaningful aspects of student life, hazing can be a serious problem that undermines the value of these experiences for many individuals as well as the group. Although hazing is not unique to DePauw, we believe it is wrong and will diligently work to stop hazing on campus.  No student who joins or belongs to an organization should be subjected to hazing. 亚洲麻豆精品prohibits hazing and any other activity that requires violation of University policy or federal, state or local law.

What is hazing?

Hazing is any action or experience expected of new or current members of an organization or team, regardless of their willingness to participate, that humiliates or degrades them, or risks emotional or physical harm.  There is not a fully inclusive list of hazing activities, as many things can be hazing or non-hazing activities depending on context and many other factors.  Also, just because someone “consents” to being mistreated, degraded or humiliated, it can still be hazing.  If you have questions about whether activities are considered hazing or not, consult the University staff member that oversees or advises the organization or athletic team.

What you should know...

• Hazing is a violation of 亚洲麻豆精品 policy and Indiana State law.
• Hazing takes various forms, including some which may seem innocent, but typically involves physical risks or mental distress, through, for example, humiliating, intimidating, or demanding treatment.
• Hazing can cause significant harm to individuals, groups and the University.
• Hazing has occurred in fraternities, sororities, athletic teams, performance groups, and many other organizations.
• Groups that haze often view it as positive and necessary.
• Groups that haze can achieve the positive outcomes they seek from hazing through non-hazing means.
• There are resources available through the University for students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff and visitors who want to report hazing, are victims of hazing or want to turn their organization from hazing activities.

Reporting Hazing

If you or someone you know is being hazed, please contact Public Safety at 765-658-5555.  If you would like to anonymously report a hazing incident or other crime, please do so via the online Silent Witness report.
